Barre3 New Orleans

At THE SWEAT SCENE, we’re always looking to try something new. In addition to the many classes offered at Reily Recreation Center, there are so many studios around New Orleans that get our heart rates up just thinking about them! One of my favorite studios is barre3 on Magazine Street, a short ten minute drive from campus.

THE SWEAT SCALE

Your muscles will shake from head to toe and you'll likely get pretty damp. You'll leave feeling sore (the good kind) in places you didn’t even know existed, and you will start to feel your body changing almost instantaneously.

THE WORKOUT

Barre3 is a barre method class combining the use of ballet barre, yoga, and pilates to sculpt every inch of your body. Unfortunately, Reily only offers a barre class once a week, and most Tulane students aren’t trying to wake up at 6 a.m. for that. This leaves barre3 as the perfect place to get your barre workout in. The class was designed by doctors, physical therapists, and anatomy specialists to develop a routine focused on balancing your body using their basic system:  1) Hold. 2) Move small. 3) Move big.

WHAT TO WEAR AND HOW TO PREPARE

  • Wear leggings! This class is a mix between yoga, pilates and more so, you want to be comfortable in a variety of positions. There are windows on two walls of the studio so you definitely don't (or maybe you do?)  want to be wearing short-shorts and end up putting on a show for the people walking around on Magazine Street.
  • Arrive at least ten minutes early for your first class so that you can get help setting up. What you’ll need depends on what the teacher has planned for that day’s class—it will usually include a light set of weights, small medicine ball and a mat.
  • Prepare your mind. Barre3 gives you a workout that is hard to find anywhere else so you want to enjoy it and take full advantage of the 60 minutes
in the studio. In order to balance your body, your mind should be balanced and focused as well.

THE ATMOSPHERE

Barre3's uptown location has a spacious studio, friendly instructors, and ample parking. They offer classes throughout the day leaving little-to-no worry about getting shut out on sign up. Each class is $21 and once you’ve become hooked, packages can be purchased for a discounted price. Make sure to check out their 3 for $30 package for new members!

THE BOTTOM LINE

Barre3 is a low-impact, effective and fun workout that will leave your muscles shaking, but begging for more.
