If you frequent the Reily Center, chances are you know Joe. He’s notoriously loved (and feared) by Tulane’s students as a tough and popular trainer who takes his job seriously, cares about his clients, and lives to make you work for that spring break body.  His most popular class, ABT (Abs, Buns, and Thighs) is held twice a week on Monday and Thursday afternoons at 4:30 PM. SWEAT SCENE word of advice—get there early, the class fills up FAST.

I got the chance to ask Joe a few questions to help our readers get to know the Joe Coleman we all fear and love.

TSS: How long have you been a trainer and group exercise instructor?
JC: I've been a personal trainer for about 20 years and a group exercise instructor about 23 years.  I started at the Reily Center just teaching spinning classes.

TSS: What made you want to start teaching?
JC: I was a member at Elmwood Fitness Center. I would take a couple of classes there a week. One day after I finished class one of the instructors asked me if I would be interested in maybe teaching some classes because she was opening her own place and she wanted me to work for her and she thought I would be a good instructor.

TSS: What do you think makes your classes so popular?
JC: Not sure it could be word of mouth. I would hope that it’s because I want all of my classes be motivating educational and lot of fun and to inspire others to get into fitness world.

TSS: Outside of your classes, what is your favorite way to #getsweaty?
JC: I always get a good sweat when I'm doing my own workouts. On weekends I workout in my garage with the door down.

TSS: What is your favorite part of teaching?
JC: Seeing everyone that comes to the classes and watching them improve their form and to see just how hard they work. It motives me to be a better instructor.

Sweat with Joe on Mondays and Thursdays at 4:30 for ABT, which is directly followed by his Abs class. He also teaches Bootcamp at 12 PM and Power Circuit on Wednesdays at 5:00 PM. Don’t like group classes? Joe is also available for personal training. But there’s definitely a reason that his classes are so popular...they’re fun, high energy and effective and most importantly, will leave you drenched in sweat.
