Gone are the days of gawking at trendy acai-bowl and avocado-toast Instagrams. Finally, Ann Arbor has a healthy restaurant with meals that taste as good as the Instagram looks. Fred’s is conveniently located on South University, so you can quickly pick something up on your way to class or after your workout. The menu ranges from acai bowls and smoothies to avocado toast, and salads and they also sell fresh avocados, berries and yogurt.
One of the best-sellers is the avocado toast. It’s extremely filling with its perfectly cut slices of avocado, red pepper flakes, lemon zest, and the sunny-side-up egg on top. The best part is that you get to mash the avocado slices yourself so that it’s just how you like it.
The white walls, decorative succulents, and all around chill vibes make it hard to believe that you're not in California. The glass door brings in natural sunlight, a nice break from awful fluorescent lights. There is no kitchen in Fred’s and the staff makes the food right in front of you, so you get to watch as they blend your drinks or slice your fresh strawberries and bananas.
What to Wear and Who to Bring
People usually wear workout clothes or jeans to Fred’s and stop in with their friends for a casual and nutritious meal. It’s not the best environment to study, considering the limited seating areas and tables; however, it’s great for a quick lunch or snack.
