I’m from Texas, the birthplace of Whole Foods and Central Market (otherwise known as the best grocery stores you will ever experience). I love wandering down the aisles of these super stores and discovering new and exciting healthy foods. What I sadly realized in Nashville is that there aren’t any mother ships available to satisfy my grocery shopping cravings. While the Whole Foods in Green Hills is definitely essential for any healthy foodie, its size and product availability pales in comparison to what I’m used to. I guess everything really is bigger in Texas.
However, let me introduce you to my latest find: The Turnip Truck, a locally owned natural food grocer with locations in both East Nashville and the Gulch.
Everyone knows the struggle of Green Hills and its traffic. If you want to save some gas and frustration, the Turnip Truck's Gulch location is definitely a more appealing option as it's only a 20-minute walk or 5-minute drive from campus.
Juice and Smoothie Bar
Their juices and smoothies are all organic! They have yummy options like the strawberry shortcake smoothie and green lemonade juice. It's a perfect snack to fuel up with after your Barry’s workout (which is just around the block).
Being on a college budget and wanting to eat healthy can often prove to be a conundrum, as we don't want to blow all of our spending money on food. Turnip Truck has got your back with their awesome deals. Every two weeks they have four grocery items, two produce, two supplements, two kinds of meat, and one type of beer on sale. But that’s not all! In addition their bulk items are 10% off every Wednesday. Talk about a happy hump day.
All of The Turnip Truck’s fruits and veggies are locally grown by Tennessee farmers. Their produce is always fresh and seasonal. One of their best treasures is during the summer time when they have Georgia peaches from The Peach Truck every day. Yum.
