Having self-awareness is an essential part of life- it is so important to be able to relax your body, mind, and spirits that lie within each and every one of us. Yoga incorporates all of these aspects, can transform our bodies and minds, and encourage us to try something new every time we step on the mat. Located on Mill Plain Road, Fairfield Hot Yoga offers both Hot (Bikram) and Power class to tone your mind and muscles and leave you sweaty and zen.
The Sweat Scale
DRIPPING... FHY will leave you at the top of the sweat scale. They use a state of the art heating system to help you detoxify and stretch. The Hot Yoga class is heated to 105º with 40% humidity and Power vinyasa is heated to 95º with 50% humidity. According to their website, benefits of the heated room include:
- Increase flexibility and greater range of motion
- Improve muscle tone by shaping long lean muscles
- Breathe more fully by creating awareness of the breath
- Burn fat more effectively
- Reduce stress and relieve muscular tension
- Reduce pain and tightness by improving alignment
- Improve circulation
- Detoxify and eliminate toxins through the skin
- Increase metabolism
- Strengthen willpower
- Increase self control
- Achieve greater concentration and determination
- Accomplish a thorough cardiovascular workout
- Improve digestion
FHY offers two classes: Power Vinyasa and Hot Yoga. Hot Yoga is their version of the Bikram practice - 26 postures repeated twice with two breathing exercises. This class is hotter than the Power class, however the poses are held longer, so you aren't constantly moving. The Power Vinyasa class is a more athletic flow. Vinyasa is translated to "breath-synchronized movement," and these classes offer challenging flows that utilize breath and movement together.
What to Wear and How to Prepare
It boils down to personal preference but either leggings or spandex shorts and a tank top or sports bra for Hot Yoga and leggings and a tank top or sports bra for Power Vinyasa.
