Every UW-Madison student loves Roast Public House. Sandwiches, fries, mac n’ cheese… I need to go for a run just thinking about it. Lucky for us, the owners of Roast opened Forage Kitchen earlier this year. Forage is the perfect spot for all of your healthy meal needs. While they offer a variety of items, the main attractions are the salads and acai bowls.
As someone who tries to maintain a healthy lifestyle on campus, I have made Forage Kitchen a regular part of my routine. No matter what time a day it is, I find time to make sure I’m eating healthy. With their eat-in or dine-out mentality, they make it that much easier.
I usually go to Forage twice a day. My first stop is in the morning to get an acai bowl. Acai bowls are essentially thick smoothies with the superfood blended in. They are filled with antioxidants and healthy omega acids. Forage puts their bowls in to-go containers, making them perfect to grab on the way to class.
Later in the day, I'll usually go back for lunch. Forage has a plethora of different signature salads all of which are incredible. If you want to be adventurous, you can choose to create your own. With over twenty different ingredients, you can come up with something to fulfill any craving. They have tons of different house-made dressings, from plain lime juice to lime Caesar (my personal favorite).
To accompany any of the delicious entrees at Forage Kitchen, they offer a few different freshly squeezed juices. To be completely honest, I have never liked juices. I’ve tried them in health-crazed cities like New York and LA, but they just weren't for me. At one of my first visits to Forage, I thought I would give it one more shot and got their “Lean Mean and Green” green juice. The team at Forage killed the game by adding the exact right amount of each ingredient making it perfectly refreshing and light.
If you aren't a Forage convert yet, we sincerely advise you go check it out. Once you try it, you'll definitely be back.
