If you're a regular on the Nashville Barry's Bootcamp circuit, there is no doubt that you've heard of Chase. His 7:15 and 8:30 classes throughout the week are always packed with Vanderbilt students, as his enthusiasm and bumpin’ playlists (and abs...) are sure to make you want to get out of bed. A morning with Chase is a great way to start your day and will leave you feeling the perfect amount of sore the next day. I had the chance to sit down with Chase and ask him some of our most pressing questions about fitness, eating, and his college experience.
What are your top reasons for exercising?
Short term, I'd have to say that I feel, look and operate optimally when I'm active. Long term, I exercise because I've seen what an inactive lifestyle looks like in old age compared to an active one... I'll take active any day!
Besides Barry's, what's your favorite way to #getsweaty around Nashville?
I like to switch it up! Take today for instance—I warmed up with a treadmill walk before doing my routine gym bodybuilding workout. Later today, I plan to workout with a friend in a group circuit training class.
Do you have any tips for college students on how to stay healthy and fit?
Don't just stay healthy and fit for the sake of it. Have compelling and attainable fitness goals that you can only reach through staying active and eating right.
What's your guilty pleasure?
I love pizza, pancakes (fave food), burgers, doughnuts and chocolate chip cookies.
Favorite healthy restaurants around Nashville?
I like Chipotle and Qdoba because I can enjoy a burrito bowl while getting my protein (steak), carbs (rice, veggies) and healthy fat (avocado) needs met!
What was your major in college?
Exercise Science, with a minor in Biology. I switched from Pre-Med and never looked back.
What is one thing that you wish someone told you in college?
Either double major or minor in Business with a focus in Entrepreneurship. We all have passions, and with that kind of background I'd be able to better pursue business ideas that pique my other creative and passionate interests! I still do now, but it would've been easier otherwise.
What are your plans for the future and where do you see yourself in five years?
I see myself doing everything I'm doing now, just on a larger scale. That includes my Nashville personal training, Barry's Bootcamp instructing, my fitness apparel brand and fitness blog.
Catch Chase on Instagram @chasethefit and at 7:15 AM Barry’s Bootcamp classes Monday-Thursday or 8:30 AM on Tuesdays.
