Have you ever wondered why there’s so much hype about yoga? Ask almost anyone who's taken a yoga class and they’ll tell you that yoga is more of a lifestyle choice than just a random workout class. This is because yoga is first and foremost an exercise in relaxation. As an added benefit, yoga will tone your muscles, increase your flexibility and make you stronger. The post-yoga glow is a real thing...you'll feel zen, light, fit, and generally happier and healthier. Whether you start off your day with yoga to feel energized and refreshed, or end it by relaxing your thoughts and muscles, you are developing a lifestyle of mindfulness, fitness, and health.

Conveniently located on State Street, Center For Yoga is the perfect place to multitask working out and de-stressing. There’s a wide variety of classes to choose from, from Hot Vinyasa to Slowburn to Karma Yoga.

THE SWEAT SCALE

Expect to leave the hot classes at Center for Yoga drenched in sweat. In hot vinyasa, the room is heated and you're constantly flowing, so once you start sweating, you likely won't stop. Center For Yoga has non-hot classes as well, which still provide great exercise, but might not leave you quite as sweaty.

THE WORKOUT

While this is technically light cardio, the classes will definitely get your heart racing. Don’t worry if you’re the least flexible person—people of all different levels take the classes and you won’t be judged if your version “touching your toes” is touching your thighs. Yoga is a practice, and the classes are all about personal progress and improvement.

WHAT TO WEAR AND HOW TO PREPARE

Definitely wear tight leggings and some sort of workout top. The biggest mistake you can make is wearing shorts, for a few reasons. 1.  You will likely be doing stretches that will cause your shorts to reveal more than you want to. 2. Wearing tight compression leggings will help retain your sweat and keep your muscles tight for maximized performance. 3. If you are practicing arm balances, it's nice to have the grip of your pants, rather than slipping and sliding all over. Most people actually come in with a shirt on and take it off later because of the heat.

THE ATMOSPHERE

Center for Yoga has a friendly and open atmosphere because of the intimate studios and changing rooms. The staff will greet you with a smile upon signing in and will always ask you how your first class went after. One of the best instructors is Bryan Bennett because of his inspiration and genuine care for his students. Honestly, his class is like working out while listening to an emotional TED Talk. He will make you feel calm and genuinely happy to be alive. Seriously, he is the BEST.
